AMSAT Canada is pleased to congratulate the University of Victoria Centre for Aerospace Research (CfAR) team on MARMOTSat receiving Canada’s first official OSCAR designation Canada-OSCAR 128 (CO-128). This recognition marks an important milestone for one of Canada’s newest Amateur radio satellite missions.

The OSCAR (Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio) designation is awarded to Amateur radio satellites that meet established criteria for serving the Amateur radio community. MARMOTSat, launched on July 7, 2026, carries a 2-metre digipeater and beacon, a 10-metre beacon, as well as DVB-S2 video and ionospheric sounding experiments, making it an exciting platform for both operators and researchers.

As Canada’s national Amateur satellite organization, AMSAT Canada is thrilled to see another Canadian-built satellite join the growing family of OSCAR spacecraft. Missions like MARMOTSat showcase the strength of Canadian innovation while providing new opportunities for experimentation, education, and on-orbit Amateur radio operations.

Congratulations to the entire CfAR team, the student and volunteer contributors, and everyone who helped bring MARMOTSat from concept to orbit. We look forward to following the mission and seeing the Amateur radio community make full use of CO-128 in the years ahead.
